Compensation Package Worth Over £10m Agreed with Chelsea

Enzo Maresca has agreed a three-year contract to become Manchester City’s next manager, with compensation talks between the two Premier League clubs now reportedly resolved.

The former Chelsea head coach has been the leading candidate to replace Pep Guardiola for several weeks, but the process was held up by discussions over a settlement fee. According to Sky Sports, those negotiations have moved forward and Chelsea are set to receive a package worth more than £10m.

Maresca already knows the City setup well, having worked under Guardiola during the 2022/23 treble-winning season. That familiarity is understood to be a key reason the club pushed for him at the start of what promises to be a significant period of change.

Guardiola’s departure means City are replacing the most influential figure in their modern history. Maresca’s job will be to maintain the positional style that made City dominant while establishing his own authority in a dressing room accustomed to winning trophies immediately.

The timing of the appointment matters. City’s first-team squad is due back for pre-season testing, meetings and tactical work under a new coaching staff in the coming weeks.

For supporters, the priority has been clarity before pre-season begins. This reported agreement brings the handover much closer to being formally completed.
