Deal agreed for England midfielder

Manchester City are on the verge of completing a British record transfer for Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson, with German outlet SportBILD reporting a €150 million agreement has been reached.

The 23-year-old has been City's primary target throughout the summer window. Enzo Maresca identified him as the central figure in his midfield rebuild at the Etihad, and two previous bids were rejected by Forest.

Forest director George Syrianos is understood to have held firm on the club's valuation throughout negotiations. Reports earlier this week suggested further talks were imminent, with Forest holding out for a package close to £130 million — a figure the reported €150 million now surpasses.

The fee would eclipse the current British transfer record, the €145 million Liverpool paid for Alexander Isak last summer. Syrianos is said to have consistently insisted on a new record fee, recognising Anderson's profile as both a Premier League star and a key figure in Thomas Tuchel's England side at the ongoing World Cup in North America.

Sport Witness speculate the information in the SportBILD report likely originated from Syrianos or his team, lending the figures credibility given Forest's central role in the talks.

A deal at that level would represent a statement of intent from City director of football Hugo Viana as he oversees the most significant squad rebuild in the club's recent history. Anderson's arrival would address one of the most pressing concerns heading into 2026-27, with the departures of Bernardo Silva and John Stones leaving considerable ground to cover in midfield.

The 23-year-old's carrying ability, range of passing and physical presence from deep make him one of the most complete midfield profiles in the Premier League. His World Cup performances for England have only reinforced that standing ahead of what would be a record-breaking move to the Etihad.
